Where it started
3 Generations down the line Frederick Ham Snr had a scrap metal recycling center near Orpington where scrap cars were taken in , large constructional steels along with anything else you might typically find come through the doors in metal recycling industry. He also set up a demolition company which his son Fred Jr became apart of taking down buildings in and around south London, They took down various big buildings in the City too.

The Director
Fred Ham Jr took the plunge to move down to the south coast and set up Hav-A-Skip. First starting off he had one lorry and a note pad strapped to his leg and found himself pulling over on the side of the road every 15 minutes trying to take orders on route to deliveries. During this time his lorry was being parked on his driveway at home and had no yard so the only option was to tip at the local tip. However, this didn't sit right at all with Fred, He was frustrated that so much waste material wasn't getting recycled and was being sent to landfill.
Although extremely tough to find he managed to find a small site in Bexhill, Sidley which wasn't great but got him on track to being able to tip his own waste and start to separate it into different material types and along the way managed to recruit some staff to help him sort. Business picked up and he had gained a few drivers so he could take bookings from an office and focus more on the paperwork.

A fantastic opportunity arose with a bigger yard becoming available at St Leonards On Sea , Whitworth Road, which is where we are currently situated. Nothing shy of some heavy challenges he managed to set up a waste transfer station and expand Hav-A-Skip with adding on some additional fleet, Machinery and recycling processing machines. Fred then soon realized that there was an influx of metal coming in from customers skips and had an idea to introduce what his father shown him in his younger years which was scrap metal.

The waste and metal seemed to work hand in hand and slowly but surely new customers kept on creeping through the gates.

The Third Generation
In 2016 Fred Jr's two sons Freddie and Darcy joined the team working from the ground, litter picking ,  skip painting , hand sorting , machine operating  right the way up to now managing the company. They have pushed the company on to modernizing it and starting it from where there dad left off. They gained  affiliations with the BMRA, increased the recycling rate of the waste disposal to 99% and have recruited more staff to join the team.
